Ok. Picture this.
It’s a couple days before Christmas.
The usual chaos is especially festive this year.
You’re catching a breather after running loads from the car to the house (in the snow & cold & dark)–all of which resulted from the “it will only take 10 minutes” trip to the store after work–it took an hour.
You just crammed the fridge full with Christmas dish ingredients…which you have to find a spare minute to prep.
You’re thinking about finishing up the gift wrapping…but let’s be honest, that won’t actually happen until Christmas Eve.
And oh! You have to remember to wash the guest room sheets before the in-laws arrive.
Finally, after a couple more hours of slinging back coffee & cleaning, you’re in your baggiest sweats & sitting down to watch “Elf” for the first time this season (that you’ve been wanting to watch since Thanksgiving).
Then the truth bomb drops.
“Crap! I forgot presents for Uncle Frank & Aunt Ethel!”
You hate the idea of running back to the store because people have officially lost their minds (we won’t even talk about yours). There are so many other things that you have to do. But then you imagine Christmas day with everyone happily opening gifts…except for Uncle Frank & Aunt Ethel…it looks like…tears in their eyes….darn it! You can’t exclude them. And now you’re just starting to get depressed realizing you’re going to be “that person” on Christmas Eve scraping whatever battered holiday gift remains from some clearance aisle in the back corner of Target for Uncle Frank & Aunt Ethel.
Well don’t lose it just yet, friend.
This is the very last–last minute, down to the wire, Christmas gift DIY. It only requires a few things & if you’re a lover of all things oily, you probably have these things on hand.
If not, there’s always Amazon Prime.
Let’s talk roller bottles.
Psst…this post may contain affiliate links so that I can earn a little commission.
But don’t worry, I only recommend products that I actually use & love.
ESSENTIAL OIL ROLLER BOTTLES
WHAT YOU NEED
FRACTIONATED COCO OIL (or carrier oil of choice)
My number one choice for carrier oil, will always be coconut. I love the smell, the way it moisturizes my skin, and the fact that it’s coconut & not avocado (the one thing I wish I liked but actually detest).
Make sure it’s fractionated so that it remains in liquid form.
I love this stuff from Amazon.
Each oil can do something amazing for your body (simply by helping it to do what it’s already supposed to do).
All that to say, there are endless options for oily blends (I’m listing off some of my favorite recipes further down).
Remember all the way back to day one & the DIY candles? And how I said that it’s a great project for using your more budget friendly, store bought type of oils? Well, this is one project that I make sure to use the good stuff.
The whole point of roller bottles is to simplify topical application. Which means, this stuff is going right into your body. Which means, I want to make sure it’s the best of the best.
After some extensive research, I ended up loving Young Living.
You can read all about the benefits of EO & why I chose Young Living here.
The person that invented roller bottles should receive an award.
I’ve always been one to just splash it all in my hand & go. But roller bottles make life so much easier…and less messy.
They are the perfect size for travel, pre-mixed, & it helps to stretch those precious drops of oil.
Because I don’t know about you, but every time I go for TWO drops in the palm of my hand it becomes FIVE. Oops!
If you don’t have extra roller bottles on hand & it’s too late for even Amazon Prime, use an old oil bottle instead! Clean off the label and you have a fresh bottle.
I’m really liking these glass, amber bottles from Amazon. Stainless steel roller–that’s important.
OPTIONAL: tags, vinyl, labels
You definitely need something to label your concoctions.
This is one of those times that I’m super thankful to own a Cricut. But I also know that not everyone owns a Cricut or something like it.
So get creative with the tags or printable labels. I like something that isn’t permanent but isn’t ruined if a little oil gets on it.
Cricut Vinyl is great quality but I usually go with knock-off brands, Inscraft usually offers a great deal.
WHAT TO DO
Add the essential oils to your bottle, fill up the rest with coconut oil, & shake it up!
The labeling is probably the most complex part of this DIY.
This is where you can really personalize this gift.
Say Uncle Frank has a creaky back and Aunt Ethel can’t sleep.
You can mix your oils to help with those specific problems.
Here’s a few of my favorite blends that anyone on your list will be able to use…
Lavender is known for being relaxing but it’s also delicious smelling. Stress Away is a blend of Lime, Copaiba, Cedarwood, Lavender oils & Vanilla extract. Personally, I don’t love the scent alone–but with extra Lavender…mmmmm. Zzzzzz. Cedarwood is also famous for it’s relaxing qualities. Copaiba is a magnifier. Lime is versatile, uplifting, & nourishing for your skin. Roll a little on the bottoms of your feet, back of your neck, chest & wrists. Prepare for coma.
15 Lavender + 10 Stress Away
This is one blend that I never go without. Mostly because I need it a lot. That stress though, it does a number on my neck & shoulders. Panaway is an invigorating, cooling blend that helps to soothe& stimulate muscles. Peppermint feels cool & tingly on the skin–helping to stimulate & calm muscles. Super popular for post-workout application or raindrop massage. And then Copaiba just makes the most of those two. Rub on the bottom of your feet, back of your neck, and wrists.

Whether it’s seasonal or sniffles, it’s refreshing to have this blend to help open you back up. R.C. blends THREE eucalyptus oils plus Cypress & Spruce–a bright, energizing oil. Peppermint, my main oil, is amazingly refreshing & distinct. Purification blends six oils (Myrtle + Rosemary + Lemongrass + Tea Tree + Lavandin + Citronella) to clear the air. Roll on your chest & breathe deep–the wrists & neck are great as well.

We all need to do more relaxing. I’m gifting these bottles to college students, new moms & everyone in between. Frankincense is uplifting, comforting, & empowering–helping you to collect your thoughts. We talked about Stress Away in “Sleep” but in a word: calming. Copaiba is a magnifier. It amplifies the other oils & helps to stretch out those more pricey oils a littler further. Lookin’ at you, Frankincense. Rub onto your neck, wrists, chest, & bottoms of feet.

Frankincense is the epitome of a grounding oil–helping to calm your thoughts & focus on the task at hand. It’s also amazing for your skin. Peppermint is invigorating–keeps you awake & alert. Lemon is such a wonderfully bright smell & it can really boost your mood. Roll on to your neck, chest, & wrists…or just breathe in the bottle. Yum.
10 Frankincense + 10 Peppermint + 10 Lemon
Perfect for fitness buffs & college kids (or when you’re preparing for the in-laws to arrive for Christmas). If R.C. is blended energy then Peppermint is natural Red Bull. Lemon is there to brighten your mood & make you feel happy, happy, happy. Rub on to your wrists, neck, chest, & bottom of feet…feets…foots…no, feet (definitely feet).
20 R.C. + 10 Peppermint + 10 Lemon
I could go on & on & on…but I think these six recipes will be most appreciated as gifts.
Fun fact. All of the oils mentioned in this post are included in the Young Living starter kit. So if you’re just getting your foot in the door with oils, you don’t have to go crazy with buying all the oils to make awesome, helpful blends like these. Eleven oils are included with the purchase of your membership (not to mention, the diffuser, samples, accessories, and team benefits).
Another fun fact. I happen to use, love, & distribute Young Living and I would love nothing more than to spoil you as a member of my YL family. Please know, you don’t have to distribute YL oils if you become a member, that part is completely optional.
If you want to learn more about oils first (I did lots of that myself before I joined), you can start with my post “What are Essential Oils?”
If you’re a millennial (like me) & don’t want to talk to anybody but want to look at kit options, you can find them on my Young Living site.
OR we can chat real life ways to use & benefits from oils over coffee (in person, messenger, text, IG, Snapchat, FaceTime, or any other communication possible) & maybe get some samples sent your way.
Oils have been a HUGE part of revamping my wellness regimen. As other things are tweaked–the oils always stay.
They’re that good. They just are.
And with that, it’s a wrap on our 12 Days of (a last minute) Christmas series. I have loved putting this together! It’s so fun to be crafty for Christmas, time & budget friendly is a definite plus.
I’m signing off for a bit to enjoy the holidays with family but I’m so excited to get going on some fresh ideas in the new year!
I’m curious, what would you like to see in a future post?
Options would include, but not be limited to:
DIY’s & home decor
real life with PCOS/infertility
foodie worthy recipes
mini vacation getaways
gifting ideas (outside of Christmas)
favorite deals & seasonal items
I’d love to hear from you as I’m working on my 2018 layout–of course, I’ll still be me, doing real life alongside you. But I don’t know what topics that I’m dealing with mean the most to you, if you don’t tell me. 🙂
Comment, message, text, pass a note.
Now go have yourself a merry little Christmas. xx Cheryl
