where to start

Life is a mixed bag. Sometimes we're getting raises + having babies, while other times we're getting laid off + holding negative pregnancy tests. Naturally, we tend to skim over our failures + imperfections. We want only our successes + highlights to see the light of day.

But as I've gotten older, I've come to realize that all of life is beautiful + purposeful whether it's a "high," "low," or somewhere in between. The sleepless nights, tight budgets + seasons of change result in lessons learned, personal growth + unforgettable memories. When we embrace the icky parts along with the really good parts, life becomes even more meaningful. So here's to rocking our third day hair, laundry piles + less than perfect photos.

And in the end, I think I’ve learned the final lesson from my travels in time; and I’ve even gone one step further than my father did. The truth is I now don’t travel back at all, not even for the day. I just try to live every day as if I’ve deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it, as if it was the full final day of

my extraordinary, ordinary life.

Our Birth Story

hey friend!

I’m Cheryl. Come on in! Pull up a chair + I'll pour you some fresh coffee. It's so good to have friends to share a cuppa with, don't you agree? Here's some Peppermint Mocha Creamer, it's my favorite.

A little about me? Well, my thirties are quickly approaching, by far my favorite titles are wife + mama, I live in the Mid-West, I'm proud to say that I can quote about 98% of Friends, I'm always thinking of how I can get creative or, of course, my neverending to-do list, and...well, I have the hardest time saying no to a new coffee mug. Which explains the collection on the shelf over there. But hey, I'm an open book on all things life, wife + mama...

The Plight of the Working Mother

One thing I’ve found in the working world to be particularly difficult as a mother is the idea of marrying my two worlds together. On one hand, I’m Mama. I cook, I clean, I wipe butts. I love it. And it’s my favorite role. On the other hand, I’m a full-time employee. I shuffle paperwork, I think critically, I work hard. And I thrive in it. I am accountable to both, responsible for both, and an integral part of both teams—relied on and needed. I am required to show up whether it’s at 1PM or ... READ the POST

What I’ve learned from five years of PCOS & Infertility

The other day, in tears, I was telling Andrew how the five years leading up to Jack’s arrival felt like a chaotic, frustrating blur. I’d like to think that I was always strong, reliant on God, and humble enough to offer up my desires to God’s better plans. Even though I had my moments, my mind often goes to the time spent silently crying on the bathroom floor, the overwhelming sense of loneliness, and the daily anxiety of pursuing a magical remedy to fix my health & hormones. From a variety ... READ the POST

11 Must-Have Items for Baby’s First Cold

This post contains affiliate links. If you’ve hung around me recently, you know that we’ve had a never-ending plague of every illness floating around this winter. Oh yeah, we’ve had the day-care-germie blues. And as a result, this Mama got a whole lot of unwanted experience in the “staying up late, googling your baby’s cough” arena. I mean, up to this point I’ve just been figuring out how to keep my child alive on a normal day but now he’s also a sick, miserable child that I’m trying to keep ... READ the POST
